## Query

The query API returns only the rows you ask for, as JSON, NDJSON or CSV, from the same typed rows as the files. It needs no key. Rows: https://publicdata.au/api/v1/datasets/nt-fuel-prices-history/rows. Counts and sums: https://publicdata.au/api/v1/datasets/nt-fuel-prices-history/aggregate.

- Rows: https://publicdata.au/api/v1/datasets/nt-fuel-prices-history/rows?unleaded_91=gte.100&unleaded_91=lte.300&limit=5
- Aggregate: https://publicdata.au/api/v1/datasets/nt-fuel-prices-history/aggregate?group=region_name&metric=avg.unleaded_91&unleaded_91=gte.100&unleaded_91=lte.300

Each filter is `field=operator.value` in the query string, and every filter must match. A number or date field compares as a number or date, and a text field compares as text. Values are case-sensitive except with `ilike`. Prefix `not.` to negate a filter, as `not.eq.value`. Operators: `eq.value`, `neq.value`, `gt.value`, `gte.value`, `lt.value`, `lte.value`, `like.*text*`, `ilike.*text*`, `in.(a,b,c)`, `is.null`.

- `select`: Fields to return, comma-separated. Every field when absent.
- `order`: `field.asc` or `field.desc`, comma-separated. The publisher's row order when absent.
- `limit`: Rows per page, 1 to 10,000. 100 when absent.
- `offset`: Rows to skip. The `next` URL in each answer sets it for you.
- `group`: On `aggregate`, fields to group by, comma-separated.
- `metric`: On `aggregate`, `count`, `sum.field`, `avg.field`, `min.field` or `max.field`, comma-separated. `count` when absent.
- `format`: `json`, `ndjson` or `csv`. JSON carries the provenance header, and the others carry it in response headers.

Without a version the API answers from the newest loaded version, and that answer changes when the publisher releases again. Put `versions/<date>/` before `rows` or `aggregate` for an answer that never changes. `/api/v1/datasets/<slug>/versions` lists the loaded versions. The API allows 60 requests in 10 seconds from one address. Above that it answers 429 for 10 seconds with a `Retry-After` header, a `RateLimit-Policy` header and a JSON body that gives the limit. Every API answer carries the same `RateLimit-Policy`. A client should wait the `Retry-After` seconds, or read the files, which have no limit. ## Fields

| field | type | publisher's header | note |
|---|---|---|---|
| `date` | date | FullDate | The day the prices were reported. Some workbooks hold the date as text with a midnight time, read as the same day. |
| `brand_name` | string | Brand Name | |
| `region_name` | string | Region Name | |
| `suburb` | string | Suburb | |
| `postcode` | string | Postcode | As published. Most workbooks hold the postcode as a number, which drops the leading zero (800 for 0800). Some rows from July to November 2023 keep it, so a filter on one postcode needs both forms. |
| `lat` | number | Lat | |
| `long` | number | Long | |
| `diesel` | number | Diesel | |
| `premium_98` | number | Premium 98 | |
| `premium_95` | number | Premium 95 | |
| `unleaded_91` | number | Unleaded 91 | |
| `premium_diesel` | number | Premium Diesel | |
| `lpg` | number | LPG | |
| `low_aromatic_fuel` | number | Low Aromatic Fuel | |
| `e85` | number | Ethanol 105 (E85) | |
| `e10` | number | Ethanol 94 (E10) | |
| `b20` | number | Bio Diesel 20 | |

## Questions

### How do I download Daily fuel prices by service station, Northern Territory as a CSV file?

Open https://publicdata.au/d/nt-fuel-prices-history/latest/data.csv. It redirects to the newest dated version, which is https://publicdata.au/d/nt-fuel-prices-history/v/2024-12-06/data.csv today. The same path serves Excel, JSON, GeoJSON, Parquet, SQLite, DuckDB, GeoPackage, GeoParquet, NDJSON, Arrow. A dated URL never changes, so use it when the file must stay the same.

### Can I open Daily fuel prices by service station, Northern Territory in Excel?

Yes. https://publicdata.au/d/nt-fuel-prices-history/v/2024-12-06/data.xlsx is a workbook with the 578,504 rows on a records sheet, the field list on a second sheet and the provenance on a third. The CSV also opens in Excel. https://publicdata.au/d/nt-fuel-prices-history/v/2024-12-06/data.csv.gz is the CSV at about a tenth of the size.

### What years does Daily fuel prices by service station, Northern Territory cover?

The current version covers 2017 to 2023. Each release from Treasury and Finance becomes a new dated version here, and earlier versions stay online.

### How often is Daily fuel prices by service station, Northern Territory updated?

Treasury and Finance no longer updates it. This site checks the portal every week and adds a dated version when the file changes.

### Can I use Daily fuel prices by service station, Northern Territory commercially?

Yes. CC BY 3.0 AU allows commercial use, redistribution and derived works as long as the attribution is kept. The attribution string is in this page's side column and inside every file.

### Is this the official source for Daily fuel prices by service station, Northern Territory?

No. The publisher is Department of Treasury and Finance, and its page is https://data.nt.gov.au/dataset/myfuel-nt-november-2024. This site republishes the publisher's file without changing its content. The original sits beside every version as source.csv with its SHA-256, so the two can be compared.

### How do I get only the rows for one region name?

Every version has one JSON file per value of region_name, 9 files in the current version, listed with row counts at https://publicdata.au/d/nt-fuel-prices-history/v/2024-12-06/by/region_name/index.json. For example https://publicdata.au/d/nt-fuel-prices-history/v/2024-12-06/by/region_name/central-australia.json holds the 168,887 rows where region_name is Central Australia. A GeoJSON file sits beside each one.

### What coordinate system does Daily fuel prices by service station, Northern Territory use?

Coordinates in decimal degrees as published. The GeoJSON file uses the same coordinates, which is what GeoJSON expects.

### Which SA2, council area, suburb, postcode, state electorate and federal electorate is each row of Daily fuel prices by service station, Northern Territory in?

Each row with coordinates carries the SA2 (2021), Council area (LGA 2025), Suburb or locality (2021), Postcode (postal area 2021), State electorate (2025) and Federal electorate (2025) its point falls in, with the code of each. This site joins them by location against the ABS boundaries, https://publicdata.au/d/abs-sa2-2021/, https://publicdata.au/d/abs-lga-2025/, https://publicdata.au/d/abs-suburbs-localities-2021/, https://publicdata.au/d/abs-postal-areas-2021/, https://publicdata.au/d/abs-state-electoral-divisions-2025/, https://publicdata.au/d/abs-federal-electoral-divisions-2025/, and Treasury and Finance did not publish them. The schema marks each one as joined and names the boundary version. A row without coordinates, or a point outside every area, has them blank. Place columns from Australian Statistical Geography Standard (ASGS) Edition 3 boundaries, Australian Bureau of Statistics, licensed under CC BY 4.0.

### What is in each row?

One service station on one day, with the station's brand, region, suburb, postcode and coordinates and the price in cents per litre of each fuel it sold, as reported to the MyFuel NT scheme. The publisher writes 0 where a station does not sell a fuel or did not report a price, and the word null in one row; those cells are null here.

### Why does the series stop in 2024?

The Northern Territory Government published a workbook for each month from November 2017 to November 2024 and has released none since. The 84 workbooks are read as one table. A day at the boundary of two months appears in both workbooks and is kept once, and one workbook the publisher uploaded twice under two months' names is counted once. The publisher gives no station identifier, so two stations at one coordinate on one day can be told apart only by their prices.

### Are any days missing?

The series has no rows for 17 days, which are 5 to 8 May 2020, 2 to 4 July 2020 and 11 to 20 May 2022. On 9 May 2020 and 21 May 2022 it has a row for one station only.

## What this site did to the data

Cells were typed, headers were renamed to snake_case and the encoding was made UTF-8. Rows were left alone. Nothing is derived. The publisher's file is beside every version as `source.csv`.
